Dear Parents,

1. Thank you for enrolling your child in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program at Ocoee High School. Air Force JROTC is an incredible program and our mission is “To develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.”  There are over 900 units located at schools throughout the nation. Our program is completely voluntary and no student can be forced to take JROTC.

2. Air Force JROTC teaches “life skills” and helps to prepare students for success after high school. The instructors are not recruiters and there is absolutely no obligation for any student to join the military. In class students learn about the history of aviation, the science of flight, space, management principles, and life skills. All members wear the Air Force uniform each Wednesday and participate in Physical Training (PT), or sports, every Friday.  Air Force JROTC offers a wide variety of extra-curricular events and activities including drill team, Cyber Patriot (cyber defense competition), Stellar Xplorers (satellite simulations), Rocketry, Academic Bowl Team and Color Guard. Students participate in field trips, community service projects, conferences, parades, and other events.     

3.  Per Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) direction, all High School students who plan to participate in OCPS Athletics programs, to include JROTC, must complete a physical each year and a one-time Electrocardiogram (ECG) screening to participate in our program.  Please contact the school athletic department for any questions or concerns.
